The article in The Journal of Singing mentioned how thin the layer of cells is on the surface of our vocal cords, and as a result how easily we can damage them. For example, clearing your throat? Not a good thing. I’ll check back to see if they explain exactly what warm-ups and cool-downs do, other than to say they’re good. Stay tuned.
