Jupiter may be aligned with Mars but the Harmonizers are thanking our lucky stars. We just got another gig for the holidays and they will pay us well. Who would have thought that we would be doing two sing outs this year. Thank you, Beverly, for recommending us. This will be a great chance to let the women of Winnetka know about us.
Since the sing out will be lengthy, 11-2 on Sunday. 12/5, we will be adding some additional holiday songs. If you are newer to the chorus and not totally memorized, please bring your book. We always sing better for memory but this year, rehearsal time is scarce and we need you to sing. And don’t worry about the length of time. Beverly has offered her office to warm up in, use the washroom and have perhaps some hot chocolate. It will be a very fun time. We might also sing Ain’t misbehavin just to add a barbershop flavor.
Additional holiday songs will be decided next Thursday, so bring your holiday music. Suggested songs are Carol of the Bells, Dreidle song, Jingle bell rock and Winter wonderland . These will be added to White Xmas, Jingle Bells, Xmas Chopsticks, Rudolph, Santa clause is coming to town and Silver bells. No 6:30 rehearsal this Thursday. We will spend much of the regular rehearsal time on the sing out songs. Even if you are not singing with us this year, it will be good practice for next year. Surely we will be out of this pandemic by then.
Carole M. and Emily have been working on choreography and props for the show. Carole may have a print out for Aquarius as soon as I can get my act together! I haven’t followed my own advice about being up close and personal with my music. So today I took a long, close look at Aquarius. I figured out how may times we sing just the word Aquarius and noticed that on the repeat , measure 70 is the most important measure. It’s the only measure of the repeat that is different and it leads us into what I would have called the CODA at 73. Thats when we start swaying our arms in the air to the right (or left, depending on your row).
We also found original choreography from the 80’s with moves for Ain’t misbehavin’. They are classic barbershop moves and for some of us, it will bring back warm memories. Those moves are ready to go so polish up your singing.
Sorry I didn’t get to You’ve got a friend last week. I may try to fit that in at the beginning of the rehearsal before we work on holiday music. We have two rehearsals before the 5th so we should be fine. All the songs are on our website.
Spend some time analyzing your music and you will find the memory comes quickly.
See you Thursday and if at all possible, try to come in person. The weather isn’t too bad right now. I’m sure we will be on Zoom at times this winter but when possible, in person is best and we are being safe at all times.
