Mark your calendars.   The show committee has set a date of Sunday, November 6th at 3:00 for our 2022, 70th show.  The next step is to secure our venue, Lake Street Church.  This date works around religious holidays in Sept. and October and allows for double rehearsals several weeks prior to the show.

If  you are going to sing on the Nov 26th sing out, here are the songs we will be singing.  Plan to come at 6:30 this coming Thursday night .  Memory is our top priority this week.

 Christmas Chopsticks

Jingle Bells

Rudolph

Santa Claus is coming to town

Silver Bells

White Christmas

I heard from several people that last weeks rehearsal was really hard.  My first reaction was to apologize and plan to have a less intense rehearsal this coming week.  Then I thought better.  It was good to have a hard rehearsal, whatever that means to different people. For me it means we found areas that need work, we exposed some areas of weakness, we were encouraged to look closely at our individual contributions.  We began to see what it will take to be ready for our show next fall.  We are a chorus that can just get better and better with hard work and if we do lots of it now, by the time summer comes, we will know our music and be relaxed and ready to take this show “on the road”.  So hang in there.  Each and every one of you is more than capable of singing these songs with perfection.  I’m very excited.

All the parts plus a 4 part recording and the music for You’ve got a friend  are up on the website so you can begin to learn it.

This week we’ll continue to  review choreography for Aquarius without adding any more.  It actually began to fall into place last week and the baris will catch up quickly.

We may start with It don’t mean a thing which is by all accounts our hardest piece.  Some zoom sectionals might be in order to review basic notes.  It is a difficult piece.  We’ll also work on the second page of Lullaby of the leaves.

Just to refresh your memory, here are the songs we need to be working on.

It  don’t mean a thing

Ain’t misbehaving

Lion sleeps tonight

Will the circle be unbroken

Aquarius

New Orleans

Lullaby of the leaves

You’ve got a friend

The following is from last week but holds true for this week and coming weeks as well.

“There will be choreography to several of these plus  there are two more songs that we will start soon or by the first of the year.  We can do this.  The sooner we get off the paper on these songs, the sooner we can start to work on blend and interpretation .  And of course , the choreography needs time to settle into our bones so the more we get done in the next four months, the better our show will be.  We need to be on autopilot by next October. “

See you Thursday.
